- Abstract
- This article presents the research results on the development of the dependence of the main physical and mechanical properties of ceramics on the ratio of the amounts of electroplating sludge and titanium dioxide in the charge based on low-plastic clay with the addition of 5 wt. % boric acid as a fluxing agent. It is established that electroplating sludge acts as a pore-forming additive, which, by increasing porosity, reduces the density and thermal conductivity of ceramics while reducing its strength and frost resistance. At the same time, titanium dioxide together with boric acid contributes to liquid-phase sintering to produce the effects of self-glazing of products and glazing of ceramic particles with a high degree of crystallinity of the vitreous phase, which increases the strength and frost resistance of ceramics. According to the results of research, it was found that with the introduction of 5 wt. % of electroplating sludge and 10 wt. % titanium dioxide can be obtained environmentally friendly ceramics with high performance properties for use in the production of products for the exterior cladding of buildings and structures.
