- Abstract
- It is shown that a primary nanocrack in a metal surface layer with a thickness of about R(I) » 2 nm is formed due to surface relaxation during its formation and also has a length of about Lnm » 2 nm. This process takes 50-100 nanoseconds. Further, the nanocrack turns into a mesocrack with a value of 1/3 of the speed of sound in the metal and a length Lµm = 102 Lnm. The critical length of macrocracks in metals and alloys must be determined by the formula LC = 104 Lnm. It is shown that the influence of the external environment on the concentration and length of cracks in the metal is associated with its temperature, which leads the part to corrosion, and the pressure and humidity of the environment do not have a significant effect.
