- Abstract
- The problem of recycling sludge as a fertilizer is considered. The main type of waste at wastewater treatment plants is excess activated sludge, which is formed at biological treatment facilities. The direct use of sludge on an active basis or as a fertilizer or substrate for growing crops is limited by its agrophysical and agrochemical characteristics. In the process of research, such indicators as particle size distribution, structure, density, water-air regime, chemical composition of soils (sediments) for the content of elements of mineral nutrition of plants were determined. The relationships between agrophysical parameters of techno genic soils formed because of sediment storage have been established. Based on the content of nutrients necessary for plants, solid wastewater sludge can be classified as highly abundant. As a result, a promising direction is the production and use of composts based on sediments from primary settling tanks (sand) and secondary settling tanks (activated sludge) for growing energy (industrial) crops.
