- Abstract
- The article evaluates greenhouse gas emissions in the energy sector of the Novosibirsk region in 2017-2020. Emissions of the following greenhouse gases have been estimated: carbon dioxide, methane and dinitrogen oxide. The calculations were carried out according to the Level 1 methodology of the Methodological Recommendations for Conducting a Voluntary Inventory of Greenhouse Gas Emissions in the Subjects of the Russian Federation. Cumulative emissions from the Fuel Combustion category in 2020 amounted to 20.16 million tons of CO2 equivalent, from Fugitive Emissions - 1.39 million tons. The combined uncertainty of emissions estimates for the sector is 6.06 %. The resulting emissions from fuel combustion are analyzed by IPCC categories, types of greenhouse gases and by directions of consumption and types of fuels. The use of coal in the energy industry creates 70.0 % of emissions from combustion, which significantly differs the structure of emission sources in the region from the structure of the Russian Federation. Fugitive emissions mainly arise from open pit coal mining and transportation and account for 6.4 % of the sector's emissions.
