- Abstract
- This article presents the results of studies of the basic properties of ceramics based on charge compositions, including low-plastic clay, 5 wt. % boric acid and 5 wt. % lanthanum oxide. Galvanic sludge was additionally introduced into some of the charge compositions, and galvanic sludge subjected to calcination until complete decomposition of calcium carbonate and heavy metal hydroxides in its composition was introduced into other charges. It has been confirmed that galvanic sludge without heat treatment has the effects of pore formation, sintering and modification of the properties of amorphous phases of ceramics. The pore-forming effect reduces the strength of ceramics and, with large amounts of galvanic sludge, negatively affects chemical and thermal stability. Heat treatment of sludge makes it possible to eliminate the pore-forming effect while preserving other functional properties of this additive, which makes it possible to significantly increase the strength of ceramics, its resistance to aggressive environment, high temperatures and temperature fluctuations. This makes it possible to effectively use galvanic sludge in the production of ceramics for special purposes.
