The main strategies, their mechanisms, advantages and limitations are considered. Based on the analysis of literary sources, the key factors influencing the effectiveness of the technology are highlighted. Special attention is paid to the role of metallophytes and microorganisms in increasing plant resistance and purification efficiency. The directions of phytoremediation improvement are shown, including the use of chelating agents, biochar, and genetic engineering methods.
