- Abstract
- This article analyses the growing need for secure communication in Europe in the 1500s. It focuses on one of the most important cryptographic researches in the West by a highly gifted and educated Neapolitan Giovanni Battista della Porta (1535-1615). Porta gave an exemplary overview of the hole field of criptology as it was known in his day and made a contribution to a modern system of polyalphabetic substitution.
