- Abstract
- The microstructure, strength and oxidation resistance in air of ceramic composites of Ti3SiC2-TiSi2-SiC system prepared by uniaxial hot pressing were studied. It was shown that TiSi2 additions refine the materials from TiC impurities and lead to formation of dense microstructure because of sintering by liquid phase mechanism. On the contrary, SiC additions restrict plastic deformation of Ti3SiC2 grains and there are no dense composites obtained in result. The studied mechanical characteristics of composites allow qualify it as advanced materials suitable for high temperature applications and manufacturing articles with complex shape.
