- Abstract
- An overview of state-of-art niobium-silicide-based in-situ composite materials is represented. The article describes the main processing routes of producing Nb-Si in-situ composites (CMs): vacuum-arc melting (VA), precision investment casting, directional solidification (floating-zone processing, Czochralski methods and Bridgman methods), extrusion, vapor-phase deposition (PVD), as well as methods of powder metallurgy. The technological processes features, the basic principles in the development Nb-Si in-situ composites with the following description of their processing are given. The problem of improving the niobium CMs high temperature resistance is discussed.
