- Abstract
- The results of the study of compaction and phase formation of a powder of an eutectic composition additive in the Al2O3-MgO-SiO2 system in billets based on electrofused corundum at various sintering temperatures are presented. It was shown that sintering in air of preforms from a homogeneous mixture of F-1000 electrofused corundum and a 0.17Al2O3-0.21MgO-0.62SiO2 eutectic additive in a molar ratio at 1550 оC ensures the formation of a dense material containing maximum amount of eutectic additive of 15 wt. %. The consolidated material consists of the lamellar structure of electrofused corundum and subcrystalline grains of cordierite, protoenstatite and cristoballite. The ceramic density reaches 3.56 g/cm3 with an open porosity of 0.12 %, and its flexural strength is 330 MPa.
